What is in it

The Deep Phyto Peel combines Spongilla, a natural freshwater sponge, with glycolic, salicylic and lactic acids, followed by soothing botanicals and an oxygen infusion with vitamins A, C and E.

Who it is for

Clients focused on the look of acne marks, deep pigmentation, sun spots, uneven texture and fine lines, who can plan around a peeling period. Results vary, and your provider will tell you whether this peel fits your skin or whether a lighter peel makes more sense.

The ten days after

Expect your skin to look tight and then peel in stages over about ten days. Keep it moisturized, do not pick at it, avoid heavy exercise and saunas while it peels if your provider advises, and use sun protection every day. We give you written aftercare and a number to call with questions.

Who should wait

This peel is not right for pregnancy, recent use of certain acne medicines, active infections or open areas, or skin that is currently irritated. We review this at your consultation.

The Deep Phyto Peel, day by day

Everyone's skin is different, so read this as a rough guide, not a schedule. Each stage can shift by a day or two.

  1. The day of your peel. Many clients notice warmth or a prickly, tingling feeling for several hours, and the face can look flushed or slightly tinted. Plan a quiet evening at home.
  2. Days 1 and 2: tight and dry. Skin often feels tight, like a mask that has set, and may look shiny or a little darker than usual. Use the moisturizer your provider suggests whenever it feels tight.
  3. Days 3 to 6: flaking and peeling. Peeling often starts around the mouth, nose and chin and moves outward in stages, so some days look patchier than others. This is often the most noticeable stretch. Keep your hands off your face.
  4. Days 7 to 10: the last flakes. Peeling usually slows, and the final flakes are often along the jawline and hairline. Fresh skin can look pink and feel more delicate for a while. Keep products simple and keep up the sunscreen.
  5. After about ten days. For many clients the visible peeling is over by now, though some pinkness can last a little longer. Ask the clinic before booking another treatment on your face. Results vary.

How to plan around the peeling days

When to book

Count back from anything with photos or a crowd. A common approach is to book two to three weeks before a wedding, a photo shoot or a big presentation, so the peeling days, plus a few spare ones, are behind you. Beach and ski trips fit better after the peeling days than during them. If you can, keep days 3 to 6 light on meetings.

Have these at home

  • A gentle, fragrance-free cleanser
  • A plain moisturizer, or the one your provider suggests
  • A broad-spectrum sunscreen
  • A wide-brimmed hat (bring it to your appointment for the trip home)
  • A plain lip balm and clean, soft towels

Hold off until the clinic says so

  • Picking, pulling or peeling off flakes, even loose edges
  • Scrubs, cleansing brushes and exfoliating pads
  • Retinol, exfoliating acids and other strong products
  • Other peels, waxing, threading or facials on the area
Your provider goes over aftercare at the visit, and those instructions come first if anything here differs. Questions during the ten days, or anything that does not look or feel the way you expected, go to the clinic: call (949) 762-9476 or send us a text.

What to tell us when you book

Tell us at booking if any of these apply, so your provider can talk it through with you, suggest waiting, or point you to a lighter option:

  • You are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • You have an active skin condition on your face, such as a flare of eczema or rosacea, or you tend to get cold sores.
  • You have had a recent procedure on your face, such as a peel, laser, waxing or injectables, or have one planned.
  • You use prescription skin products or take prescription medicine for your skin.
  • Your skin has reacted strongly to a peel or skin product before, or you have a sunburn right now.

This list is for planning, not medical advice, and your provider will ask more at the visit. Please share these details by phone, not on the online request form. To skip a peeling period altogether, see our facials, or compare every treatment on the full price list.

More questions

Can I wear makeup while my skin is peeling?
Ask your provider at the visit. Many clients keep makeup to a minimum while they peel, because it tends to cling to dry edges and takes more rubbing to remove. Your aftercare instructions say when you can go back to your usual products.
How do I wash my face during the peeling days?
Gently, and only once your provider says you can start. Many clients use lukewarm water, their fingertips and a gentle cleanser, then pat dry with a clean, soft towel instead of rubbing.
What if I peel more or less than I expected?
That is common. How much flaking you see varies from person to person, and from one area of the face to another. If anything worries you, call or text the clinic.
